Greyhound Inn, Staple Fitzpaine, Somerset
Dogs and muddy boots are welcome at the Greyhound Inn at Staple Fitzpaine in Somerset's Blackdown Hills, so what you should do is come here after a walk at Castle Neroche, Staple Hill or Otterhead Lakes just up the road. It won't matter what time of year it is, there'll be log fires to warm you when it's cold, and in the summer you can sit out on the terrace in the sunshine.
It’s a big old rambling place, with heaps of character; flagstone floors, stone walls, thick oak beams, and plenty of quirky country bits and pieces. Food is all homemade with ingredients that are sourced locally, just the way it should be, and if you come for lunch or dinner you won't be disappointed. On the evening menu are favourites like Somerset Lamb's Liver & Bacon, Fish of the Day, Mixed Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle, and 10oz steak with all the trimmings. At lunchtimes its pub classics and ciabattas.
This is a handy one to remember if you’re out and about as it’s only 5 minutes from Taunton and 10 minutes from J25 of the M5. Round off your day out with a drink or something to eat; you're on holiday, you deserve it.
