BBQ Lodges are a very special feature of many of the properties in the Sleeps12 carefully chosen collection of group accommodation in the UK, because we know how unreliable the weather can be, but we still want you to have the best time.

So, if it rains, if it snows, if it blows a hoolie, it doesn’t matter. You can all tiptoe off to the BBQ lodge, snuggle up beneath the twinkly lights, sizzle sausages, toast marshmallows or even create an elaborate grill. Swap stories, tell jokes, have a singsong, play charades. You’ll be so cosy. And if it’s hot, hot, hot, a BBQ lodge can make a welcome retreat from the blazing heat of the sun, leave the door open, love the views of rolling countryside. Most of the BBQ lodges are timber built Scandi style, some are bespoke variations, like the bothy at Kingshay Barton and Princehay Barton.

Can we use a BBQ lodge any time of year?

Absolutely! Come rain or shine, our Scandi style BBQ lodges give you somewhere different to gather and make extra special memories during your large group stay.

What cooking facilities does a BBQ lodge have?

Our Scandi style BBQ lodges have a central cooking area with a charcoal grill, so you can keep it simple toasting marshmallows and making hot dogs and burgers (just like an outdoor barbecue), or you can show off your culinary skills with pulled pork, skewers and Bavette steak sandwiches. Cook up a veggie feast with whole grilled cauliflower, smoky roasted aubergine, or grilled pineapple with rum and coconut. Some lodges, like the one at Swallows Meadow and Swallows Rest have an attached kitchenette for convenience.

How many does a BBQ Lodge seat

It varies, but they are generally quite large and can seat up to 30 on sturdy built-in benches set around the central grill.

Is charcoal supplied?

Yes, most of our properties have at least an initial supply of charcoal for you. Some supply more, though there are a few that don’t provide any, so you’ll just need to pop it on your grocery delivery or pop to a local farm shop for top quality locally made charcoal.

Can we sleep in the BBQ lodge?

No, the BBQ lodges are not for sleeping in. Why would you want to when you’ve got plenty of bedrooms in your holiday house with super comfy beds that are guaranteed to give you a restful nights’ sleep?

Are the BBQ lodges well ventilated?

Yes, they have built-in ventilation systems to ensure a safe and comfortable environment. There’s a large central chimney hood directly above the firepit and adjustable air vents designed to draw smoke and fumes up and out of the cabin.
