Staple Hill, The Blackdowns, Somerset

A conifer plantation in the Blackdown Hills, that's owned and managed by the Forestry Commission; there are waymarked trails for cyclists and walkers and there's an Easy Access Viewpoint Trail with some far reaching views over the Vale of Taunton. If you like a good hike then pack some sandwiches and get geared up for the 13 mile Herepath walk, or go on horseback or bike. There's a small nature reserve managed by Butterfly Conservation and the ruins of an abandoned farm at Staple Common. If you forget your sandwiches head to the Greyhound at Staple Fitzpaine for lunch or the Holman Clavel on the Wellington road.
