Boon Barn offers stunning self catering group accommodation for 20 guests, with room for 10 more at an extra charge per person. Set on a small private estate on the borders of Somerset and Wiltshire, this supersized house was once a traditional grain barn on the Longleat Estate. It’s now been lovingly restored and is packed with amazing features – an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, a barbecue island, and games area. Quirky modern interiors give a spacious yet homely feel with antique style rugs and statement chandeliers; ultra-comfy beds ensure restful sleep.

Longleat which is just down the road and makes for a fantastic family day out with a drive through safari park, a historic house, and countless attractions. Just up the road is the village of Chapmanslade where you can go for lunch at the local pub; within a few miles are the market towns of Westbury, Warminster and Frome. Go to Frome when the independent market is on, soak up the lively atmosphere as you wander the stalls with local produce, arts and crafts, vintage and street food.

Bath isn’t far either so go and spend the day sightseeing; visit the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and The Royal Crescent, do the Bath Skyline Walk, stop and watch some street theatre, get your retail therapy fix in the shops and browse the galleries and museums. If you want a quieter scene, Bradford-on-Avon is like a mini version of Bath, with beautiful Georgian houses built into the hillside; wander down to the canal basin, drift along the Kennet & Avon on the Barbara McLellan Narrowboat or hire kayaks from The Towpath Trail Hire Centre and paddle up to Avoncliff Aqueduct. Soak up the new age vibe in Glastonbury with a visit to the enchanting Chalice Well or a stroll up the Tor.

If you’re here in the autumn head over to Stourhead to stroll around the gardens and see the glorious colours reflected in the lakes; tick a few boxes with a trip to Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle, and Lacock Abbey, where some of the Harry Potter scenes were filmed. If art is your thing go to see the latest exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth at Bruton and while you’re there, amble up the hill to the historic dovecote. One of England’s smallest cities, Wells is less than an hour away and well worth a visit; see the majestic cathedral and medieval Bishop’s Palace where the swans who live in the moat swim up and pull on a bell when they want their dinner.

But we have every suspicion that you might not feel the need to go anywhere at all; you'll probably be perfectly content just idling the days away at Boon Barn, and who could blame you? Hours spent larking in the pool, relaxing in the sauna, enjoying leisurely barbecues together; time to put your feet up, take your ease and while away the time with the people you love most in the world. Heaps more for the memory bank.
