Wiltshire’s White Horses, Wiltshire

Wiltshire is well known for the colossal white horses carved on the chalk hillsides, visible from miles around. There’s nothing prehistoric about them, as you might think – the oldest, on Westbury Hill, is 250 years old, and the newest, at Devizes, was carved to celebrate the Millennium. Of the 13 original white horses, you can still see 8 and they are quite a spectacular sight so if you have time, plan a day motoring around to see them all, with a stop off for lunch at a country pub, or at least go and see one.
