The Catherine Wheel, Hemyock, Devon

Like most village pubs on the Blackdown Hills, expect a warm welcome when you visit the Catherine Wheel at Hemyock. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed; a wood-burning stove keeps you warm in the winter, in the summer you can sit outside and take the air in the pretty beer garden.
The menu is good; Buttered Leek and Exmoor Blue Tart with New Potatoes and Wild Garlic Pesto, Slow Roast Cumin Spiced Breast of Lamb, Tabbouleh & Pomegranate Salad with Mint Yogurt, Roast Chicken, Field Mushroom, Leek & Tarragon Pie with Mash and Spring Greens, Scrumpy Battered Fish & Chips, Tartar Sauce, Peas and Lemon. Plus there’s some delectable bar snacks – Roast Pork & Apple Sauce Focaccia Bap with Chips, Wild Boar Burger, Smoked Bacon, Cheese, Chips, Salad & Relish, and Wild Mushrooms on Toast with a Poached Deane Barton Duck Egg. There’s also a good choice of sandwiches, and there’s a huge emphasis on fresh local produce.
