Riverside - Accommodation
Family holidays at Riverside will always be remembered for the right reasons because it’s such a wonderful place to stay. Set back off the lane in a sleepy hamlet on the Somerset Levels, the River Tone flows peacefully along at the back of the house and the views across the wetlands are incredible.
Riverside is a boutique style rural retreat that's light and airy throughout, and so peaceful. A wonderful welcoming feel envelops you as soon as you step in from the front porch to the reception/dining room; right here is where your troubles tiptoe softly away and your holiday begins. Finished in elegant neutral tones, the room exudes a sense of restfulness; to one end a plump sofa faces a user-friendly wood-burning stove; there's quirky bookshelf wallpaper in the alcoves, slate floors and soft lamplight. In the middle of the room a chunky dining table seats 12-14 so there's plenty of opportunity for happy family feasts. At the other end of the room is one of the two staircases in the cottage.
Wander through to the kitchen/breakfast room, where you'll find a snug seating area with built-in settle seating, and a well-equipped Shaker style kitchen. Even though there are 2 dishwashers at Riverside, you might just find yourself finding excuses to wash up because with that beautiful outlook across the Somerset Levels you can get plenty of kitchen sink dreaming done! A door opens from the kitchen out onto the river bank - a tranquil spot for morning coffee or a sundowner, but remember that the river is unfenced so young children must be supervised at all times.
Next to the kitchen is a spacious living room where big plump sofas entice you to put your feet up; neutral and earthy tones, chenille and velvet, and a wood-burner create a very homely ambience. It’s somewhere to snuggle with the little ones and read stories to them, to get together for family movie nights with bowls of popcorn to share, or to curl up for a daytime snooze. Off to the right there’s a shower room and WC, and straight through is a garden room that doubles up as a playroom; French doors open to the garden so you can toddle out with the tinies and watch them have fun in the play area.
A second staircase leads from the living room to Bedrooms 1 and 2, both with ensuite shower rooms. Bedroom 1 has a super king bed and Bedroom 2 has a double. The bedrooms at Riverside are all individually furnished so they have their own quirky character and are very restful.
The staircase in the reception/dining room leads to a spacious landing; a quiet spot with a Victorian fireplace and a chair where you can sit and read by the window. Off this are Bedrooms 3 and 4 with zip and link beds that can be arranged as a super king or twins, and Bedroom 5 which has a double bed. Also off the landing is a family bathroom, a separate shower room, and stairs to the second floor.
On the top floor of the house is Bedroom 6 with zip and link beds and across the landing, a shower room. From here, the views across the marshy landscape of the Somerset Levels are breath taking; the Levels are a haven for wildlife, particularly migratory birds, so keep some binoculars handy because you might spot a rare visitor.
Off to the right of the reception/dining room is a lobby with a utility room to one side and a WC to the other. Straight ahead is the games room with a pool table that doubles up for ping-pong, table football, and a TV. Just outside of the French doors beneath a leafy arbour is the hot tub, great for a soak by day or beneath the stars. Close the gates and the garden is all secure, fire up the barbecue for a long lazy lunch and an afternoon of pure relaxation; the little ones will be happy running about on the sun dappled lawn, and playing on the swings and the boat in the play area. That’s what Riverside is all about - contented family holidays and low key celebrations with the people you love most in the whole wide world. Check availability and book your stay today!
