The Bird in Hand, North Curry, Somerset
The Bird in Hand at North Curry is a such a charming pub, just how a traditional village inn ought to be. The atmosphere is warm and inviting for locals and visitors alike, the service is friendly and smiley, and the gastro food, made using what’s sown and grown, raised and grazed locally, is very good.
Inside is proper country pub with hefty stone walls, ceiling beams, scrubbed pine tables and old wooden settles; on colder days you can warm your toes in front of the log fire. Have a pint of the local brew in the bar, tuck into something scrumptious in the dining room, or if the sun has got his hat on, sit outside and watch the comings and goings, If you’re eating, choose from light bites, jacket potatoes and baguettes (lunchtimes) or hearty mains. The latter come in the form of pub classics like Cider battered haddock or Lemon Jackfruit with chunky chips and mushy peas, a classic 8oz Beefburger, and an 8oz Sirloin steak with all the trimmings. Or you can go for dishes like Creamy Cornish fish pie, Thai green chicken curry and Spring pea, mint and broadbean risotto. Go on a Sunday and fill your bellies with a jolly good roast.
They host regular live music events, and more good news – the pub is dog friendly. If you’re staying nearby at one of our luxury large group houses in Somerset, give it a whirl. You can even walk here along the River Tone from Willowhayes and Riverside.
