Kingston St Mary, Taunton, Somerset

Kingston St Mary is just a few miles from the Somerset county town of Taunton, and though there’s not a lot here it’s a nice for a stroll about and as a starting point for walks into the Quantock Hills. There’s a 15th century church with a very ornate tower and some fine examples of hunky-punks, and a 17th century pub, The Swan Inn, which is very welcoming. Sad but perhaps necessary, the village has seen modern expansion in recent years, but the old part still has some quaint old houses and cottages built of the red sandstone that was a commonly used building material in these parts; it gives you an idea of how things used to be here.
