Kingston St Mary, Taunton, Somerset

Kingston St Mary is just a few miles from the Somerset County town of Taunton, and though there’s not a lot here it’s a nice for a stroll about and as a starting point for walks into the Quantock Hills. There’s a 15th century church with a very ornate tower and some fine examples of hunky-punks, and a 17th century pub, The Swan Inn, which is very welcoming. Sad but perhaps necessary, the village has seen a modern expansion in recent years, but the old part still has some quaint old houses and cottages built of the red sandstone that was a commonly used building material in these parts; it gives you an idea of how things used to be here.
