Ferne Animal Sanctuary, near Chard, Somerset
Ferne Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted and abandoned animals, and a lot of them live here, amidst 52 acres of rolling Somerset countryside in the Blackdown Hills. It’s such a peaceful place, with a sensory garden, and in the thatched farmhouse, a café that serves delicious home cooked light bites and cakes. Amble around the paths, see the animals happy in this wonderful environment where they are loved and cared for; sheep and goats, pigs and horses, chinchillas, ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs. There’s a dog paddock and a cattery, with a big focus on rehoming these animals, and you’ll see ducks and chicken roaming free.
There’s a woodland play area and nature trail for the little ones to enjoy, though be sure to supervise by the dragon fly pond and lily pond. Take a rest on the Butterfly Seating and see what flutters by.
It’s just off the A30 so can be easily reached from your Sleeps12 large group holiday accommodation, or make a detour on your way to the coast.
