Dunster Working Watermill, Dunster, Somerset

Dunster Working Watermill is a fully restored 18th century mill that stands within the grounds of Dunster Castle; thanks to the National Trust, this lovely old building has been given a new lese of life and is once more grounding and bagging flour. It’s a double overshot mill, which means there are two wheels, both powered by water from the leat - from above, which is quite a rarity these days.

It really is very nice here, so it's a good place to visit if you're staying nearby on your large group holiday in Somerset. The backdrop is peaceful woodlands that run alongside the River Avill, and there's a waterside walk beneath the trees - the shade is so welcome on baking hot days. There's even a little shop where you can buy a momento of your visit - maybe something that's made here would be appropriate too, like a bag of Dunster Watermill flour, porridge oats or hand mixed muesli.
