Dunster, Somerset

This is a lovely medieval village lying in Exmoor National Park with a backdrop of steep wooded hillsides and a fairytale castle perched high above the streets (National Trust owned – you should visit). Right in the middle of the village is the octagonal 17th century Yarn Market, and there are lots of little shops and cafes. In December, Dunster by Candlelight won’t fail to get you in festive mood; stroll from the castle to the working watermill, buy some flour and take it home to make bread. If you get peckish try the Luttrell Arms or Cobblestones of Dunster.
