Budleigh Salterton, Devon

Budleigh Salterton is rather a lovely little town on the world famous Jurassic Coast in East Devon. Soak up the distinctly unspoilt air and the timeless charm when you potter around the streets browsing the independently owned shops, the galleries and cafes; you might even pop into the thatched museum to see the bygones.

The High Street at Budleigh Salterton slopes gently down to the two mile stretch of pebbly beach backed with colourful beach huts and enormous red sandstone cliffs; spend time there making pebble towers or throwing skimmers into the sea, enjoy the unhurriedness because it's rare these days; just think, if you could bottle it and take it home with you - wouldn't that be good? If the sea air makes you peckish treat yourselves to fish and chips.

If you have the time cycle along the disused railway line to the sea front at Exmouth, or go for a pony trek up over the heathery heaths with Budleigh Salterton Riding School. Nearby are Otterton MillWorld of Country Life and Bicton Park Botanical Gardens
