Bicton Park Botannical Gardens, Budleigh Salterton, Devon
It’s worth a visit to these Grade 1 listed gardens in Devon’s picturesque Otter Valley. Essentially it’s a beautiful 18th century botanical park with Italian, American and Mediterranean style gardens and a charming little church, but there’s something here for the whole family. A much talked about feature of Bicton Park are the historic glasshouses, and they really are quite breath taking for the architecture as much as the plants; make sure you see the Palm House, the second largest in Britain. There’s a rural life museum, a miniature railway that takes you through the woods, mini golf, indoor and outdoor play areas, nature trails, and in the Fernery, a quirky shell house that you just have to see.
You can take the dog but keep it on a lead and don’t take it in the restaurant, Orangery or play areas.
Open all year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 10.00am.
