Bowood House and Gardens, Calne, Wiltshire

Trying to find somewhere good for a family day out when you’re holidaying in ? Bowood House and Gardens will do you fine. There are over 100 acres of gorgeously glorious Capability Brown parkland to explore, and well, what a treat, a Treat with a capital T.  The thing is at Bowood there’s something to make you all happy; sweeping lawns, a mile long lake, a beautiful walled garden, an Italianette terrace garden and a whopper of herbaceous border that’s a delight throughout the year. There’s an arboretum with over 700 trees, woodland gardens, and oh, there’s so much - a Doric Temple, a Hermits Cave, a romantically tumbling Cascade, need we go on? The kids will love it because there are tractor trails, den building, a soft play area and an adventure playground with a LIFE SIZE pirate ship!
You can go and see the State Rooms, the Orangery, the Library and the Chapel in the Georgian House that’s home to the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne, and afterwards you can treat yourselves to a nice cup of tea in the Treehouse Café or The Stables Restaurant.
The 30 acre Woodland Gardens are a separate attraction that’s only open for 6 weeks from April to June when the bluebells, azalea, magnolia and rhododendron are in full bloom. A wonderful sight indeed.
