10/10 - We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Shires for a 40th birthday celebration. The house was perfectly designed for a large group. It had all the facilities needed in the kitchen and a lovely large dining table. All showers were excellent. All appliances and facilities were high-spec. The pool area was amazing and this really made our weekend. We were also able to use the hut outside and toasted marshmallows. The outside area is fabulous and the view can be seen from the dining room and the bedrooms upstairs. I imagine it would be amazing in the summer with some nice weather. The host was great and showed us around the house on our arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay and would highly recommend the Shires. Thank you. - Simpson - March 24

10/10 - The Shires is a beautiful home with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing break. The house was immaculate on arrival and even received a cake from the host which was delicious and a welcome surprise. The swimming pool and spa area was also immaculate too. The family loved cooking marshmallows in the hut, watching films in the movie room and making the most of the games room. The beds were comfy and all bathroom areas were very clean. The open plan kitchen and dining area was great for bringing all the family together to enjoy meals together. We can’t wait to come back again. Gary and the family were excellent hosts. - Jones

10/10 - During a period of particular hot weather it was extremely difficult to prise the children away from the beautifully kept pool area whilst parents looked on from comfortable sun loungers on the decking. Fabulous facilities and accommodation and would suit all age groups. Totally private and extremely comfortable. - Everson

10/10 - We are a group of 14 female hospital staff aged from early 20's to late 50s. We needed a break. Time to relax and de-stress from a couple of God awful years at work. We couldn't have asked for a better place to do it. The location was private and peaceful. The accommodation was perfect. We had space to be in small groups, all together and nooks and crannys to be alone. We couldn't have asked for more. - Thorpe
10/10 - Shires is the 3rd property we have stayed in from Sleeps 12 and have to say this one most definitely has the wow factor! The whole place has been so well thought out and as for the pool house, it is on another level! The house has been finished to a very high standard and the little extras, such as the coloured lighting makes it that bit extra special. We were a family of 11, stretching from 11-70 and everyone had something to keep them entertained. We will most definitely try and make a return visit here! - Wall

9/10 - Loved the pool and hot tub, the quiet snug and the cinema room all great features. Imagining a visit in the warmer weather, a rattan style table and chair set for dining in front of the pool on patio would be perfect (not to obstruct the views maybe tucked to side until needed). We look forward to visiting again ... a weekend wasn’t long enough!! We weren't there long enough but the walks are beautiful. - Deluce
10/10 - Gary and his family are amazing people very helpful and kind the property it self is fantastic the only thing I could say is it need more paintings or colour to make it feel more homely and more kitchen space but apart from that it’s one of the best holiday properties I’ve ever stayed at. Lyme Regis was a beautiful little town down the road.

10/10 - We absolutely loved the pool/hot tub/sauna area the temperature was perfect something some of the other properties get wrong. We spent a lot of time in this part of the house. The cinema room was also used a fair bit easily accommodating us all. The only thing that we could say was a very slight nuisance was the fact that none of the mirrors were near plug sockets Tricky to style your hair... bit of a pain when you’re getting ready to go out. Other than that it was totally fabulous. The host was great, on hand when needed and amiable. We loved it. We had a lovely local walk through the fields into Yarcombe. - Burkmar

10/10 - Home made cake was a treat. The whole house was 5* standard - the spa hall particularly wonderful. Comfortable beds. All very modern and the gadgets in the kitchen were amazing. 10/10 - With five young children we just had a wonderful time in the pool. For the adults the pool table proved great fun and competitive. We also had some nice walks with the dog. Mr Shire was was very nice and friendly as were his helpers. All in all a very good stay. - Fagg
10/10 - Our stay at the Shires was excellent. There were 11 of us (6 Adults & 5 Children). It was a very relaxing weekend enjoying all the facilities available to us. All the children just loved the swimming pool (worst problem was getting them all to come out!!!) The BBQ Lodge was awesome. Gary, the owner, was very pleasant and very helpful. Full marks from us all. We all did a 'Treasure Trail' (available from Treasure Trails online) around Chard. It involved solving a number of clues around the town and ending up with one suspect. We have done these before and found them excellent. It took around two hours and we visited parts of Chard that we would never have seen. Seaton Wetlands are brilliant for walking and birdwatching. - Tavener
10/10 - Amazing experience with sleeps 12, always so friendly when called or emailed. Answered all questions quickly and well. - the Shires went over and above our expectations. Made our stay easy and enjoyable. - Prior to booking sleeps 12 website was very useful, had four different families will all different needs and wishes and it made it easy for me to find information, Floor plans, things to do etc. - Gary was a fab host, showed us round and even brought a parasol over mid stay when it was delivered which was just what we needed with the heatwave. - we have all come back very very happy guests! 9/10 - Great property for a family holiday, although with the concrete floor throughout the communal area downstairs it makes for rather a noisy property, especially when you have older members of the family that want to go to bed earlier than the younger ones! 10/10 - This is definitely the best property we've ever stayed in. Shires has everything a family needs; fabulous kitchen/ dining area, indoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna, cinema room, barbeque hut, children's play area and hi tech throughout. This is the ideal property for a family break at any time of the year. A lot of thought had gone into the planning of this property to make it what it is - exceptional. We visited Lyme Regis harbour which was lovely but in all honesty we had absolutely no need to venture outside of Shires as we had everything there we could possible want during our stay. Gary, the owner, was super helpful and the best host ever! - Coleman
10/10 - We were the first booking for the Shires and Gary and Rachel (the owners) are lovely and made us very welcome. Obviously with a new property there are teething problems, which were all resolved immediately, but this wasn't a problem for us and we would certainly recommend The Shires. Lovely location with loads to do. As we were only away for the weekend to celebrate big birthdays with the family we spent most of the time at the property enjoying the pool etc. Visited Brancombe and did the NT cliff walk to the village (forge; Bakery cafe, farm, church), Sidmouth for a walk along the sea front with our old dog. - Corlett
