The Forge, Branscombe, Devon

They say The Forge at Branscombe was built in about 1580 so it’s stood here for centuries, providing a workplace to the blacksmiths who made whatever was needed for the local fishing and farming community – axe heads, pig rings, ploughs, fishing hooks and of course horseshoes. What’s really nice is that back in the 1960’s the National Trust came along and rescued it so it’s still used as a forge today and the blacksmiths who work here use traditional methods to make the wares you can see and buy in the showroom. You can even watch a blacksmith at work here if you time it right.
