Branscombe, Devon

Tucked away on the East Devon coast, Branscombe has to be one of the loveliest villages in the West Country. Leave the main road and follow the narrow winding lanes to the village where the streets slope steeply down to the beach, and are lined with centuries old stone cottages; roses clamber enthusiastically up to the windows, hanging baskets brim with flowers.

When the weather is good, lots of people come here to mill about because it's such a nice place to be; there’s a lovely church, an old bakery with tea rooms, and a forge, and two good pubs – the Masons Arms and the Fountain Head. Down on the shingle beach is the award winning Sea Shanty Beach Café, with amazing coastal views; go for a hike up over the cliffs on the South West Coast Path, come back for a well earned cream tea.
