A short drive along country lanes takes you to Swallows Meadow, where your group holiday in Somerset begins.

The House

Dating back to the 15th century, this is a house with oodles of character and original features - old elm beams and doors, exposed stone walls, big inglenook fireplaces, and in the living room, restored Jacobean panelling.

Go through the porch into the dining room, a wonderful setting for any celebration feast with family and friends. To the left is the farmhouse style kitchen with an outlook over the garden and across the fields. Right of the dining room is the living room with big leather sofas to curl up on, and a wide screen TV; come gather after a wintry walk in the fields, with a tray of hot buttery crumpets and mugs of steaming hot chocolate. Next door is the games room with a 3 in 1 table for pool, air hockey or table tennis; beyond that a hallway leads to Bedroom 6. Upstairs from the living room are Bedrooms 1-5, all with ensuite facilities, and all with zip and link beds (super king or twin), except for Bedroom 3 which has a king size French bed. A second staircase from the games room takes you to Bedroom 5.

The south facing gardens are at the front of the house; besides the swim spa and hot tub there are seating areas, a year round BBQ lodge with a small kitchen, and a play area with swings and a football goal. Beyond are trees, ripe with plums and damsons in early autumn, profuse with blossom in the springtime.

Local Area

Right on the doorstep at Swallows Meadow there’s a footpath that takes you through the fields to the next village; a short wander along the lanes is the Hatch Inn, and just a few miles away you can go alpaca walking or to soak up the timeless charm of Burrow Hill Cider Farm where Somerset Cider Brandy is made.

If you feel like venturing further, head into Taunton for a browse around the shops, or to play on the high ropes at Vivary Park Golf & Adventure Centre. If history appeals, go to Mucheleny Abbey, have an afternoon ambling round a National Trust House like Barrington Court or Montacute House, or see the glorious cathedral and Bishop’s Palace in Wells. Take a family boat trip at Maunsel Lock Canal Centre, see the animals at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, pootle through the landscape on a heritage steam train with the West Somerset Railway. Within an hour you can be on the beach at Lyme Regis or Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast.

Wander where you will, and even if you go nowhere else at all, you’ll still have a wonderful time because Swallows Meadow is a dream; peace and quiet, fresh air, and so much to keep all ages smiling. This is your time for luxury togetherness, enjoy every single minute of it.
