Winyard’s Gap Inn, Chedington, Beaminster, Dorset

Winyard's Gap Inn is a proper country pub, standing high on a hill with the most staggering views of the rolling hills of Dorset and Somerset.  As you’d expect from a family owned establishment, the food is all homemade and they have a big local ethos, with ingredients sourced as close to home as possible. For that reason the menu changes with the seasons – for example, on the winter menu are mains like Pressed slow cooked shoulder of English lamb, Roasted fillet of hake, and Char grilled matured West Country beef. They also do pub favourites like burgers, fish and chips, ham, egg and chips and that, and they have vegetarian and vegan options, so it’s generally safe to say that unless you’re a really fussy eater, you’ll find something that will take your fancy. The Sunday carvery goes down well, as does a pint of the local brew, especially if you take it outside to the beer garden and drink it as the sunsets on a balmy summer’s evening.
They have plenty of room for larger groups in the restaurant, though if you bring your pooch there might be a problem as dogs are only allowed in the bar.
