The White Horse, Washford, Somerset

Go to The White Horse in Washford and what you’ll find is a traditional Somerset village pub where they don’t make a fuss or put on airs and graces, they keep it all simple. A proper job country pub in other words, one that first served as a coaching inn back in the 17th century.

The setting is rather pretty, right on the river, edge of Exmoor National Park, quiet village streets of centuries old cottages and a station where the steam trains stop off as the West Somerset Railway wends its way to Minehead. Food is pub grub, all very seasonal, and they use a lot of local ingredients so you can expect the likes of rabbit casserole, Locally farmed trout, and Steak & stout pie. If it’s a warm day you can sit out in the beer garden, when its cold warm your cockles inside by the wood-burner.
