The Singing Kettle, Buckfastleigh, Devon

If you’re out pootling about in this neck of the woods, maybe after a ride on the steam train from Totnes, go to this friendly little tea room in Buckfastleigh for a bite to eat; the welcome is friendly, the food all homemade. They do cooked breakfasts, lunches, snacks and cakes, and on Friday and Saturday evenings they’re open for a three course dinner; well, they dipped their toes in the water and it worked so well that they decided to make it a regular thing, with things like Rosti Crusted Salmon, Lamb Kofta and Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pie on the menu. No wonder it was popular!
Vegans aren’t left out; there’s an option for them on the cooked breakfasts, and a very good vegan sausage sandwich which quite frankly, would go down well anytime of day. They do divine cakes too, and cream teas, and what better than to sit in the courtyard garden with a plate of scones and a pot of tea on a warm day?  If on the other hand, it’s a bit chilly, sit inside with a bowl of soup and the warmth of the wood-burner will make your cheeks nice and rosy.
