Saddles and Paddles, Exeter, Devon

If you’re one of those people who just love adventure and being outdoors you should get yourselves down to Saddles and Paddles at the quay in Exeter when you’re on your holiday in this neck of the woods. They do bike and boat hire for rides on and along the beautiful Exe estuary or Exeter Ship Canal.

Bikes come in all shapes and sizes including trailers and tag-alongs and because most routes are traffic free, it’s something the whole family can do devoid of stress. Leave the city behind you and head out to Topsham (4.5 miles) or all the way to the seaside at Exmouth (11 miles); plan it well and you can even get the ferry over to Starcross and stop for a spot of tucker.

That’s the saddles, now for the paddles; hire kayaks, canoes or stand-up paddle boards and get out on the calm waters, taking in the sights and sounds and maybe even spotting a bit of wildlife. Hire is for an hour or more, or for the whole day so there’s plenty of time to paddle to the pub for a leisurely lunch. On summer evenings they do Paddle Party Nights – you paddle from the quay to the Double Locks pub (1.75 miles) where the boats are collected, leaving you to enjoy the evening.

Absolutely brilliant fun for families, friends and corporate groups, especially as Saddles and Paddles offer discounts to groups of 10 or more.

Open every day from 9.00am-6.00pm, but closed on Wednesdays Nov-Apr
