Rest & Be Thankful Inn, Wheddon Cross, Minehead, Somerset

In the highest village on Exmoor, this charmingly named country inn used to be a staging post for travellers on the road between Dunster and Dulverton; 200 years later, travellers are still given a warm welcome, whether they’ve been exploring the hills on foot or bicycle, or are out pootling about in the car.
It’s traditional and relaxed inside, with a log fire to make it really cosy in the winter. The fare is pub grub; sandwiches, baguettes and wraps, steaks, fish & chips, sausage and mash, that sort of thing, plus some fancier dishes on the evening menu like Slow Cooked Beef in Exmoor Ale and Thyme, Smoked Haddock Gratin, and Fillet of Salmon with Tarragon Sauce. All home cooked using locally sourced produce as is the way these days, and very popular is the Sunday and Wednesday carvery.

Open: Daily 10.00 am-3.00 pm and 6.00pm-midnight   Dogs welcome
