Porlock, Somerset

Porlock lies with the green hills of Exmoor on three sides and the sea in front, an untroubled village that has inspired poets and dreamers for centuries; friendly cottages and inviting shops line the narrow winding streets and it's so picture postcard pretty. Knights of old lie at rest in the church, the bones of aurochs were found in the silt at the edge of the bay two miles away. Have a leisurely stroll about and if you get peckish, fear not because you have a choice here; for tasty teacakes go to Mrs.Jackson’s Victorian Tea Rooms; have a proper job cream tea at the charmingly named Whortleberry Tea Rooms, or for if you prefer a pub, go to the 13th century Ship Inn. Just down the road is Porlock Weir where you can sit and watch the world go by on the harbour.
