Porlock Weir, Somerset
It’s hard to believe this pretty little hamlet was once a busy seaport, it’s so quiet and peaceful these days, with a cluster of old stone buildings and charming 17th lime washed cottages sharing the backdrop of Exmoor’s steep wooded hills. There’s a little aquarium for the children to see some marine life up close, and a few small shops to browse, with a boutique and a place selling hand blown Exmoor glass. The Ship Inn provides a relaxing spot for lunch, or there’s a country house café for all day food and refreshments. Walk from Porlcok Weir up through the woods to Culbone Church; it's utterly enchanting.
