Holidays in the New Forest don’t get much better than this! Ortus House is a holiday home and a half, set in a quiet residential area on a hillside in a very sought after area of Lyndhurst. In short, it’s gorgeous; stacks of wow factor, stylish interiors and a gorgeous homely feel, but that’s not surprising because in its former life as a maternity hospital it was the scene of much happy celebrating as countless babies came into the world curling their toes. In fact, the owner’s mother worked there, which is a nice bit of history. And what an amazing place it is today! It's perfect for entertaining - for those big birthdays and special anniversaries, so go for it! There's snooze space for 15 plus 1 more guest at an extra charge, plenty of space and everything you could possibly need plus more for any large group stay, whether it’s a week long family holiday, a weekend away with friends, or a midweek corporate break. Seriously. An indoor AND outdoor heated infinity pool (extra charge from Nov - Mar), a hot tub, a steam room, a gym, a games room with a pool table, huge TV and a racing car console, a play area and a trampoline for the young ‘uns. You won’t be wanting for anything!

The New Forest National Park is a great destination for a UK holiday – one, because it’s so utterly beautiful, and two, because there is so much to get out and see, and so many interesting places to visit. The forest is just a very short stroll from the door so there’s ample opportunity to explore the great outdoors. Follow a walking trail and wind up at one of the welcoming country pubs, book up for some pony trekking at Brockenhurst Riding Stables, or hire bikes from Forest Leisure Cycling. The more adventurous can try canoeing, kayaking, or archery at New Forest Activities near Beaulieu - Dads might want to visit the National Motor Museum, just one of the fantastic attractions on the Beaulieu Estate. Pack a picnic and go to Hatchet Pond, have a wander round, soak up the tranquillity; have a family outing to Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary, the New Forest Wildlife Park, Forest Falconry, Longdown Activity Farm, or the New Forest Reptile Centre. Those who love beautiful gardens and historic houses will enjoy Mottisfont Abbey and Furzey Gardens, or go and see the charming All Saints Church at Minstead where you can visit Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s grave and then have a leisurely lunch at the Trusty Servant Inn.

There's a great choice for exciting days out whilst you’re staying at Ortus House; go to Southampton for a shopping trip, find out all about the ill-fated Titanic at SeaCity Museum, or have a boat trip on the River Solent. See the magnificent cathedral in Winchester, the Mary Rose at Portsmouth, or if you fancy a day by the sea go to Bournemouth or Highcliffe for long stretches of golden sands. Have an adventure to Brownsea Island from Poole or Sandbanks, or head over to the Isle of Wight from Lymington. If you don’t want to go far, you’ll enjoy just pottering around Lyndhurst; it’s a lovely village with a range of mostly independent shops and some very good places to eat; like the Fox & Hounds, La Pergola, and within staggering distance of Ortus House, the Waterloo Arms. You’ll notice a fair bit of Alice in Wonderland theming in the village, like the Mad Hatter Tea Rooms and that’s because the real life Alice lies buried in the churchyard of the imposing Gothic church of St. Michael and All Angels at the top of the High Street - that's worth a look too! You’ll find heaps more information on our Things To Do pages – and phew, what an absolutely brilliant holiday you’ll have at Ortus House! Check availability and book now.
