Mad Hatter Tea Rooms, Lyndhurst, New Forest, Hampshire

Take some more tea, as the March Hare said to Alice in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, and that’s the theme throughout these friendly tea rooms on the High Street in Lyndhurst; the original Alice, the inspiration for the book is buried in the churchyard close by.
So take some more tea, have another pot of it to wash down your big slice of coffee and walnut or chocolate cake, or your cream tea; two fat scones, a dollop of jam and clotted cream. Or is it clotted cream and jam?  Whatever; it tastes the same whichever way you do it.
They do light lunches at the Mad Hatter Tea Rooms too – Broccoli Bake, omelettes, and we’ve heard, very nice egg mayo sarnies. It’s all a little old fashioned perhaps, but that’s nice and in keeping with the character of the place, and really, if the food is good and the service is smiley, what does it matter? If the sun has got his hat on go and sit on the rooftop terrace – you can even take your dog up there.
