The Swan, Bampton, Devon
The Swan at Bampton carries many accolades, among them two AA rosettes for culinary excellence and a place in the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs. It’s the oldest pub in Bampton, so you’re probably getting the picture – gorgeous old features and a sense of tradition combined with top notch food and excellent service.
It’s the kind of place that’s equally nice to pop into for a drink after a walk in the lanes or a day out on Exmoor as it is to go to for a relaxed lunch or dinner with friends and family. The menu changes with the seasons, which is just how it should be for a country pub in Devon, because that way they get to make the very best of what’s available from the bounty of local produce in these parts.
To give you an idea, on the mains are 28-day dry aged single muscle rump, braised beef shin croquette, carrot puree, persillade, port sauce, Rump of Exmoor lamb, broccoli puree, potato galette, red wine sauce, sprouting £17.50 and Fillet of Brixham hake, leeks, curried Cornish mussels, spinach. Special diets can be catered for and likewise children, though they don’t run a specific menu for kids.
