The Stagg Inn, Titley, Kington, Herefordshire

If you like to think of yourself as a bit of a foodie, you should go to The Stagg at Titley; tucked away in a quiet corner of rural Herefordshire, it’s an award-winning gastro pub so it should be right up your street. Like a lot of country inns in these parts, it’s not without its charm – the bar and cosy dining rooms are all on different levels reflecting how the original building has been enlarged over the years.

If you were to choose from the A La Carte menu you might have Chalk stream trout or Celeriac fondant to start, followed by Trio of Welsh Pork or Butternut Squash Risotto, and finished with Chocolate Sabayon or Cassis Parfait. All made using local produce, all amazingly flavoursome. Sundays of course, is roast day.

What’s nice in the summer is to arrive a little early and have cocktails in the garden where there are neat little box hedges and lavender, and lovely views over the fields. As with any pub that has a top reputation for food, you’d be wise to book in advance, and bear in mind that groups of 5+ may be asked for a deposit and larger groups might even have to pre-order.
