The Royal Castle Hotel, Dartmouth, Devon

This 17th century hotel stands almost majestically on the waterfront in Dartmouth; inside it’s essentially classic and elegant, but there are one or two surprises, and nice ones too.
The Royal Castle Hotel has two bars, both dog friendly, and a restaurant, as well as a private dining room, so all things considered, it should suit everyone.
The Galleon Bar has a warm traditional ambience, especially when they’ve lit the log fires in the winter; they serve food all day which makes it popular with families, and they have a menu just for children if that’s what they want. The roast on Sundays is excellent.
The Harbour Bar is quite a contrast; it’s very contemporary with a certain rusticity, which works well. Pop in for craft beers, coffee, light lunches and cocktails, and if it’s the right night catch some live music.
There’s also an award winning restaurant with gorgeous harbour views, the Grill Room, which serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner every day, and on Sundays, a carvery.
What a place, eh? They’ve thought of everything and cater for everyone, even groups, who can book The Library; it seats 2-14 for private dining from if you like, bespoke menus, in a very refined setting. One to book if you have something to celebrate, say a big birthday or an anniversary; a lovely thing to do after a boat trip on the River Dart.
