The Lakes Bar & Kitchen, Lechlade, Gloucestershire

The Lakes Bar & Kitchen is set by the Sailing Club Lake on a private estate at the edge of The Cotswolds just up the road from Lechlade, and is open to visitors as well as residents. Go along and what you’ll find is a welcoming ambience and relaxed dining with views over the lake; interiors are nature inspired so there’s a distinct rustic edge – wooden floors, sheepskin rugs, lights strung from the teepee-style roof, and lots of foliage.

The food is good, from an all day menu that kicks off with brunch from 9 to 3 (11.30 stop time on Sundays to make way for the scrumptious roasts); choose from the likes of a Full English, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale and Mushrooms on toast. At lunchtimes the Deli Menu offers temptations in the line of Forest mushroom, leek and cheese Wellington, Dunkerton’s Cider & wild boar sausage roll, and a Grilled free range chicken sandwich, or there’s a Classics Menu featuring dishes like Wood roasted Cornish lobster frites, Chicken Katsu Curry and Crispy duck Carnita tacos. The menu changes with the seasons, so expect fresh and crisp salads in the summer, and if you can, sit outside lakeside and soak up the view. The Lakes Bar & Kitchen is a good place to be, even if you’re only stopping for a glass of wine, an artisan beer or lip-smacking cocktail.
