The Ivy Castle View, Guildford, Surrey

The Ivy Castle View in Guildford is unusual in that it strikes the perfect blend of serving food all day in a setting that’s both sophisticated and relaxing, so hats off to them. It’s called The Ivy Castle View because it has a wonderful outlook over the castle ruins, especially from the glass fronted terrace. Interiors are fab; nice and colourful, and very, very stylish, with a contemporary-mid century mix that really works. The Art Deco style bar is something else, and woah, wait till you see The Looking Glass Room! Orange leather chairs, glass pendant lights, and walls adorned with vintage prints and local artwork. It’s a happy colourful place for private dining so if you’re up this way on a group holiday, perhaps for a birthday or a hen weekend, book it.
So, they open early, for breakfast, and what a fantastic start to the day, with Peach & Elderflower iced tea, Pastries, Crumpets and Croissants on the menu, and of course, the Full English. You can have Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale, Eggs with smoked salmon, eggs almost any way you want them.
On the A La Carte menu you’ll find dishes like Keralan sweet potato curry, Pan fried sea bass fillet, Roasted lamb rump, and a selection of steaks; there’s a Vegetarian and Vegan menu too, an Afternoon Tea menu (oh, the Alice in Wonderland Afternoon Tea, so enchanting!), and a Weekend Brunch menu because who doesn’t like a little lie in at the weekend?
