Find this gastropub at the bottom of Honiton High Street, right next to the river. It’s actually a pub, restaurant and smokehouse, on the basis that they serve very local beer and fantastic food, and they smoke their own meats and fish. Oh, they make their own bread too, and it’s very good.
So what’s on the menu? It changes seasonally as they rely on fresh ingredients sourced as locally as possible, but starters include Oak Smoked Venison, Goats Cheese Mousse, Fig, Beetroot, Walnut & Crisps and Grilled Sardine Fillets, Toasted Sourdough, Preserved Tomato, Garlic Butter & Basil. For mains there are tempting delights such as Rib Eye Steak, Smoked Brisket and Mushroom Tart with Red Wine Sauce, and Butterbean Cassoulet, Shiitake Mushrooms, Crisp Polenta, Walnut & Rosemary.
There’s also a great bar food menu with a tasty Rare Roast Beef Sandwich on it, and Soup with Homemade Bread. The Tapas menu is nothing short of excellent with a big choice of goodies such as Chorizo Scotch Egg, Roast Pepper & Cheddar Fritatta, and Crispy Squid Rings.
