The Globe Inn, Lympstone, Exmouth, Devon

The Globe Inn is right on The Strand in the picturesque village of Lympstone, so it’s easy to find should you find yourself in need of sustenance when you’re out exploring on your family holidays in Devon. Inside is traditional and tastefully simple – wooden floors, wood-clad walls, old settles, pine tables and mismatched chairs. If you’ve been for an estuary walk in the winter, grab the leather sofas by the fire and warm your toes.

Behind the food is a strong ethos of seasonal, local and kind to the environment. So meat comes from animals raised and grazed in the fields nearby, vegetables are from the rich Devon soils, and fish from the waters of Lyme Bay and the River Exe. On the mains are Market Fish like brill or mackerel, Whole dressed crab, Fish & chips, Honey roast Devon gammon and 8oz Ribeye Dartmoor steak. They also do tapas and cocktails, they have a café for hot drinks, pasties, and cakes, and they even offer a takeaway menu, so if you like the idea of a picnic-type affair at the harbour or along the estuary, that’s for you. No cutting sandwiches and hard boiling eggs before you leave your large group holiday house, just order something from here.

The Globe is very much a community pub with regular quiz nights and live music, but everyone is made to feel welcome – families, dogs, in fact anyone as long as they behave themselves and don’t get leery.
