The Globe Inn, Alvington, Lydney, Gloucestershire

The Globe at Alvington is a traditional pub right on the edge of the Forest of Dean, serving a jolly good range of cask ales, lagers, ciders and wines. It's had a bit of a makeover in recent years so inside is a mix of modern furnishings and old oak beams and that, but it's okay, it works, plus there are log fires to warm your toes on winter days and that's hard to beat.
The Forest of Dean has a bounty of home grown, home raised and artisan produce and it's put to good use at The Globe, as is evident from the scrumptious homemade food that comes out of the kitchen - Pie of the Day, Hanley Farm Pork & leek sausages with creamy spring onion mash, braised red cabbage and rich onion gravy, Pan fried fillet of sea bass with crushed new potatoes, samphire, tomato, chive & red onion salsa, and for the vegetarians, Spinach, artichoke, roasted red pepper & pine nut Wellington. There's quite a choice actually as there's more than one menu; there's also a Deli Sandwiches and Burger Menu, a Children's Menu, a Senior Citizens' Lunch Menu, and a Steak Night Menu.
If you come here after a walk in the forest on a nice sunny day take a pint out to the beer garden to drink with a nice Steak, red onion & mature Cheddar ciabatta. Be sure to take your time and enjoy it, because this, my friend, is what being on holiday is all about.
