Tea by the Taw, Barnstaple, Devon

Tea by the Taw came about because two born and bred Barnstaple ladies had a yearning to run their own vintage style tea shop. And ta-da! They’ve done it, and doesn’t it look pretty? All light and airy, mismatched old china, right by the river too, a lovely place to go for a light lunch, a proper job Devon cream tea, afternoon tea or just for a cuppa and a slice of something nice after a walk along the Tarka Trail.

They make it all themselves, and yes, even those amazing cakes – have you seen them?? They do all the favourites – Chocolate Cake, Victoria Sponge, Lemon Drizzle, Chocolate and Vanilla, Lemon and Blueberry, Coffee and Walnut. For lunch you can have a baked potato, a thick cut sandwich, cottage pie, a Ploughman’s, burger and chips, steak & ale pie, soup of the day, haddock and mozzarella fishcakes – oh, there’s plenty more to choose from and that’s just the problem – choosing! It’s not easy because it all looks and smells so good! Go see.
