Roth Bar & Grill, Bruton, Somerset

A feast for your belly and your eyes awaits you at Roth Bar & Grill based at Hauser & Wirth in Bruton; old cow sheds have been given a new lease of life as a restaurant and bar, with contemporary art on the walls and a stunning centrepiece bar made from things found and salvaged. Food is amazing. No other word for it. Menus change daily with the focus kept on the seasonable and the sustainable, so most of the ingredients come from the kitchen garden and Durslade Farm where Roth Bar & Grill is situated. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and on Friday nights, dinner. Go along and have Smoked trout, pickled cucumber, poached egg and toast for brekkie, Chermoula baked aubergine, bulgar wheat, sultanas, mint, yoghurt and almonds for lunch, or sandwich of the day which might be buttermilk fried chicken, dill pickles, slaw, harissa mayonnaise and chips. Friday night have something from the Salt Room – Lamb chops, Aberdeen Angus steaks, or Pork chops; on Sundays tuck into a roast of lamb, beer or pork with Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, roasted carrots, walled garden greens and gravy.
Drinks are fab too, largely from local distilleries and artisan makers or created using produce from the walled garden, the farm or the hedgerows; fresh juices, cordials, cocktails, coolers, spirits like cucumber & dill gin, beetroot rum, and raspberry gin.
