Painshill, Cobham, Surrey

You’ll love swanning about at Painshill near Cobham; these glorious 18th century landscaped gardens were inspired by Renaissance art, so you can imagine what a feast for the eyes it is. There are very considered vistas, plenty of surprises and there will be lots of those “Ooooh!” moments, as you turn a corner and take in another spectacular view. Amble around the Serpentine Lake, through the woods and past the follies, which add such an air of enchantment to the gardens; there’s a Ruined Abbey, a Gothic Tower, a Temple, a Turkish Tent, a Crystal Grotto, and a Hidden Hermitage. See? It’s an absolute delight to the young ‘uns and the old ‘uns, and we daresay the dog will enjoy a walkabout too, but you must keep him on a short lead and for goodness sake, make sure you pick up after him.
There are picnic areas at Painshill, a tea room and a gift shop; parking is free and there are accessible route and loos for the less able bodied.
