Ostlers at No 1, Worcester, Worcestershire

There’s something rather romantic and charming about this place, with the tables out on the pavement you couldn’t be blamed for thinking you’d suddenly arrived in a quiet backwater of some cosmopolitan European city rather than Worcester. Inside it’s all cosy and candlelit.
You can tell these guys are passionate about what they do by the quality of the food; they love fresh, seasonal, and local, they put their heart into it and the result is mouth watering cuisine that you’ll want to tell everyone about.
The lunch time baguettes are good, a serious step away from the usual; Sirloin of Beef with Wasabi Mayo, Leg of Lamb with Mint Yoghurt, Tomato & Mozarella with Basil Pesto. Evening starters include Wild Rabbit Risotto, Stuffed Lamb Heart and Sweet Potato Tagine, mains are things like Tandoori Lamb Shank, Local Pheasant Breast and Mushroom Stroganoff. There’s a very enticing choice of cheeses and a fine selction of port to finish off.
