Misterton, Crewkerne, Somerset

Misterton is a small village just outside of Crewkerne in South Somerset, dissected by the A30 which runs on to Dorchester.  On the main road is The Globe Inn and further along, Cedric’s, a shop that sells an array of locally produced goodies - well worth a visit as they have some delights on their shelves. Tucked off the main road are quiet narrow lanes lined with charming cottages and several gorgeous old houses built of the local golden Hamstone. From Misterton you can easily stroll into Crewkerne – the town centre is about a mile and a half but on the road in there’s a garage where you can buy essentials, and worth noting if you travel by rail, the train station.
Have a look round the churchyard and you’ll find the grave of Mary Gear who died in 1876 and was a ‘messenger and errand woman between the village and Crewkerne’. How times have changed.
