Laxton Visitor Centre, Newark, Nottinghamshire
Laxton Visitor Centre is set in the grounds of The Dovecote Inn, so it would be rude not to stop for lunch whilst you’re here, but first go along and find out all about the ‘open field’ farming system that is still operated over three fields at Laxton – the only village in Europe to do so. You can read about the history, see aerial photographs and watch a short video, and if you feel inclined you can buy the Visitor Centre booklet, a map of the estate, or even a nice mug.
The other thing you can do is pick up a leaflet detailing a walk around the open fields, then lace up your boots and off you go. It’ll be peaceful and worth it for the far reaching views over the Nottinghamshire countryside.
