Killerton House is set on a quintessentially English 6,400 acre estate near Exeter, owned by the National Trust; parkland, wood and gardens waiting to be explored – you can build a den, hunt for bugs and spot wildlife. Make sure you see the Bear’s Hut and the Ice House! At the heart of the estate is the 18th century Killerton House, renowned for its costume collection; wander round the ground floor and soak up the history; children can spot the Builder Mice. There’s monthly Farmer’s Markets and Forest Schools, and a shop that sells second hand books and produce from the estate; treat yourself to a slice of homemade cake in the Stables Café, or lunch cooked to order in the Killerton Kitchen Restaurant. If you come in late October you can join in the Pumpkin Trail; if not, there’s a 5k Parkrun every Saturday – bring the whole family – and the dog!
