Ilfracombe Aquarium, Ilfracombe, Devon

Ilfracombe Aquarium is an award winning family attraction right on the harbour at Ilfracombe. It's not a huge place and a good look round won't take up much of your time, but it's very good and will give you a fascinating insight into the life of the waters on this part of the North Devon coast. it's a good set up, in the form of a zoned journey that starts at the source of a stream on Exmoor and continues down the river to the estuary, exploring a rockpool and the harbour before it carries on along the coast and out to Lundy Island. There are quiz trails, talks and presentations, feeding demonstrations and interactive activities, so it's very much something for the whole family.

So, if you've ever wanted to get up close to a spiny spider crab, thornback ray, beadlet anenome, common starfish, long-clawed squat lobster, hermit crab, Rock Cook warsse or tub gurnard, here's your chance. And incidentally, there are over 75 different species of fish here, so do try to see them all.

Ilfracombe Aquarium is wheelchair friendly and has a small cafe and gift shop. Best to check the website for opening times.
