Hive Beach Café, Burton Bradstock, Dorset

Well, what an amazing location. Right on the beach at Burton Bradstock on the world-famous Jurassic Coast, with views that stretch from Lyme Bay to Chesil Beach. That takes some beating!
The emphasis is on fresh, local, sustainable ingredients, hence the regularly changing menu and the abundance of fish; the food is absolutely scrummy with things on the lunch menu like Chargrilled Whole Sea Bass with Stir Fried Peppers, Courgette & Chorizo with Hive Chips, Hake & Potato Curry, and Whole Cracked Crab with Garlic Mayonnaise, Coleslaw, Cajun Potato Salad and Hive Artisan Bread. Their Hive Beach Crab Sandwich sells out quickly because it’s incredibly good.
They have their own Hive Beach Micro Bakery where all their cakes and biscuit and takeaway treats are made; look out for things like that and take some home with you.
They’re happy to take large groups but bear in mind that they don’t take reservations, it’s potluck, and to be honest, it does get busy, especially in the summer, so turn up early and you should be okay. There’s plenty of seating inside or you might find a table out on the decking.
Opening times vary throughout the year but as a guide, Spring hours are Mon-Sun 10.00 am-5.00 pm and there are several evenings when the café is open but you’ll need to check their website for this or give them a call.
