Heron Farm, Weston, Honiton, Devon

If you happen to be staying anywhere near Honiton on your large group holiday in the South West, you should pop out to Heron Farm, just a couple of miles from town. What they have here is an absolute gem, a treat for all the family; it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to linger.

Set in 15 glorious acres at Heron Farm are an award-winning vineyard and café, an apple orchard and kitchen garden, a play park and fairy garden, and a gift and farm shop. At the heart of it is the plough shaped building that was featured on Grand Designs and is now home to the shop and café.

Go on a warm day in spring and the orchards will be frothy with blossom, the birds will be singing, the sheep contentedly grazing beneath the trees. Early birds can tuck into a hearty breakfast in the café, if you come later, swing by for lunch or afternoon tea; the focus is on fresh, seasonal food, with much of it coming from the walled garden here. Cakes are freshly baked during the day, apple juice is made with apples that grow in the orchard, gin is made using peppercorns grown on the farm.

They run vineyard tours and tastings from April to October, for groups of up to 10 people, and throughout the year there are events like an Elf Trail at Christmas, summer bbqs, and an Easter Trail.
