Clayton’s and The Glasshouse, Barnstaple, Devon

Clayton’s and The Glasshouse is a snazzy contemporary cocktail bar-lounge-restaurant just off the High Street in Barnstaple. And very nice it is too; modern, contemporary, a bit of snazz, a bit of cas. A good mix. The Clayton’s bit is the lounge bar, very relaxed with wooden floors, exposed brickwork, glitzy mirrors and trendy lighting –  great for a spot of lunch or for a cheeky cocktail of an evening.

The Glasshouse is the restaurant upstairs, with, yep - a glass roof. No surprise there. So a light and airy setting obvs for fine dining and private hire. There’s also the Terrace out on the rooftop where you can dine alfresco or sip a Mojito in the sunshine.

The food? Modern; the menu is diverse and there’s a fair bit to choose from so even the fussiest eaters ought to find something they like the sound of. There’s a good selection of salads, sandwiches and wraps, nachos, a fab choice of burgers, and mains like Thai Vegan Curry, Moroccan chicken fillet with couscous, harissa, spiced raisins, peppers, tzatziki and fried tortilla, Indian Goat Curry, and Devonshire lamp rump with potato fondant, parsley & mangetout, honey glazed carrots, asparagus and cauliflower puree and a red wine jus. Nom nom.

And there’s more. There’s a Chef’s Menu where the mains include the likes of Monkfish and king prawn curry, Yellowfin Tuna Steak, Potato gnocchi with roasted butternut squash, pumpkin puree, Devon Voscombe Farm cheese and pine nuts. Definitely nom nom. Go.
