Chantry Tea Gardens, Kilve, Somerset

Just what you need after a blowy walk along the cliffs from East Quantoxhead, or a lovely way to round off a spot off rockpooling on Kilve beach. The setting is idyllic, with the ruins of a 14th century chantry as a backdrop. All summer long the gardens spill and froth with cottage garden flowers, roses clamber up the walls, birds chirrup as they go about their business. Dogs are welcome in the garden, service is friendly and the food, well! Delicious home made cakes and quiches, and big fat scones served with a generous dollop of jam and clotted cream. Wash it down with a pot of tea or a glass of wild English elderflower cordial.
