Bridge House, Bampton, Devon

Back in the early 1900’s Bridge House in Bampton was knows as Cyclists Rest so it shows how long this place has been providing sustenance and shelter to visitors. They serve brunch, lunch and coffee and cake and what’s impressive is that they actually make all their cakes, breads, puddings, chutneys and preserves on site, which proves how dedicated they are to serving good quality food. All the other ingredients used come from the local area, showcasing some of the amazing produce that’s raised and grown in this beautiful part of Devon on the edge of Exmoor National Park.

On the lunch menu are such delights as yellow split pea soup with wild garlic pesto & homemade bread, Warm bacon, onion & Keen’s Cheddar tart with salads, and a farmer’s or Fisherman’s Sharing Board. Puddings are amazing – Rhubarb & almond tart, Pistachio cake with oranges in syrup & crème fraiche, and Homemade ice cream or sorbets. Do go, it’s wonderful. Sit in the garden in the sunshine and enjoy every mouthful.
