Arlington Court, Arlington, Devon
Not just an impressive Regency country house but also the National Trust Carriage Museum showcasing an important collection of over forty horse drawn vehicles from state chariots to two wheeled child’s carriages. Inside the house are more collections – over 3,000 shells, pewter, model ships and costumes, all amassed by over 11 generations of the family who lived here. The formal gardens are breathtaking with a rather grand conservatory overlooking an ornamental pond, and a walled kitchen garden; the wider estate takes in over 20 miles of footpaths across beautiful countryside with woodland walks and play areas. Make a day of it, there’s plenty to see and do.
Open March to October Parking, shop and café, dogs welcome in the grounds on leads.
